A four-member body has been formed by Fire Service and Civil Defence authority to investigate the fire that broke out at a slum in Rupnagar area of Mirpur in the capital on Wednesday morning.
Dilip Kumar Ghosh, deputy director of Fire Service, said this while addressing a briefing at in Mirpur following a fire incident there this morning.
The real cause of the fire will be known after getting report of the committee, he said.
Earlier, at least 200 shanties were gutted as a massive fire tore through a slum in the capital’s Rupnagar area this morning.
Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Russel Shikdar said, the fire originated at a shanty of Rupnagar slum at around 9:45am and it engulfed adjoining areas.
On information, 25 firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire around 12:30 pm.
The authorities could not immediately determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
It comes after two separate fires gutted the Chalantika slum in the space of five months between August last year and January this year.
